1.1 Information You Provide

MotorScribe collects only what you explicitly enter into the app:

• Vehicle details (make, model, year, VIN, color, mileage)
• Service records, maintenance logs, and modification entries
• Receipt and document images you upload for AI scanning
• Vehicle photos you attach to records
• Community build information you choose to publish publicly

1.2 Authentication

Sign in with Apple is the sole authentication method. We receive only the anonymized identifier Apple provides — we do not receive your name, email address, or Apple ID credentials unless you choose to share them. We do not store passwords of any kind.

1.3 App Integrity

Apple App Attest generates a cryptographic key ID stored in Google Firestore solely to verify that requests originate from a legitimate installation of MotorScribe. This key carries no personal information and cannot be used to identify you.

1.4 What We Do Not Collect

• Location data — your location is used on-device by Apple WeatherKit only and is never transmitted to our servers
• Advertising identifiers or tracking data
• Analytics or behavioral data
• Device identifiers beyond what App Attest requires
• Payment information — all purchases are processed by Apple via StoreKit 2
• EXIF metadata — all image metadata (GPS coordinates, device info, timestamps) is stripped before any image is transmitted

Information you provide is used exclusively to operate the features you request:

• Vehicle records and service entries are stored in your personal iCloud and displayed within the app
• Receipt and document images are transmitted to Google Gemini AI for text extraction, then immediately discarded — they are not retained
• Your Apple App Attest key ID is used to validate that API requests come from the genuine MotorScribe app
• Community build information you choose to publish is displayed in the public community feed

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond directly providing the features of MotorScribe.

MotorScribe integrates with the following third-party services. We share only the minimum data necessary for each to function.

MotorScribe does not use advertising SDKs, analytics platforms, or any other third-party data collection services beyond those listed above.

4.1 Your Vehicle Records

All private vehicle records, service entries, modification logs, receipts, and photos are stored locally on your device and synced to your personal Apple iCloud account via CloudKit. MotorScribe operators have no access to this data at any time.

4.2 Image Processing

When you scan a receipt or document, the image is transmitted over an encrypted connection to Google Gemini AI via Firebase Cloud Functions. All EXIF metadata — including GPS coordinates, device information, and timestamps — is stripped before transmission. The image is processed and discarded immediately. MotorScribe does not retain copies of submitted images.

4.3 Push Notifications

Weather alerts and maintenance reminders are generated entirely on-device using Apple's local notification framework. No notification data is transmitted to or from our servers.

4.4 Security

All data in transit is encrypted via TLS. iCloud data is encrypted by Apple at rest. Firebase data is encrypted at rest by Google. We employ Firebase App Check / Apple App Attest to ensure only legitimate app installations can communicate with our backend.

The Community Builds feature is entirely optional. If you choose to publish a build, the following information becomes publicly visible within the app:

• Vehicle make, model, year, and color
• Modifications and fitment details you include
• Photos you select as the build hero image
• Your display name as set in your Apple ID

Community build data is stored in Google Firestore and Firebase Storage. You can unpublish your community build at any time from the Vehicle Record screen, which removes it from the public feed and from our servers.

MotorScribe is not directed to children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us at support@motor-scribe.com and we will promptly delete the associated information.

7.1 Access & Portability

Your vehicle records are accessible within the app at all times. You can export any vehicle's complete service history as a PDF directly from the app.

7.2 Deletion

To delete all your private vehicle data, delete the MotorScribe app — this removes all local and iCloud data associated with your account. To remove a published community build before deletion, unpublish it from the Vehicle Record screen. To request deletion of your App Attest key or Sign in with Apple record, contact support@motor-scribe.com.

7.3 California Residents (CCPA)

California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion, opt out of sale (we do not sell personal information), and not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. Contact support@motor-scribe.com.

7.4 European Users (GDPR)

EEA users have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing of, and port personal data. Our legal basis for processing your App Attest key ID is our legitimate interest in security. Community data is processed on the basis of your consent, which you may withdraw by unpublishing your build. Contact support@motor-scribe.com.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the effective date below and, where appropriate, through an in-app notification. Continued use of MotorScribe after changes become effective constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
